A key focus of this stream will be to explore ways in which we can engage in truly collaborative partnerships which reflect ethical principles and are sustainable. We will also examine the ethics of engagement in international research & practice.
From a global health perspective we will be discussing the global threats of climate change, air quality and water scarcity by addressing their relationship to socio-economic status, consumption and power. Transdisciplinarity is essential in creating sustainable solutions and we hope to provide a forum to discuss these issues.
This theme will examine the components of community health, improving health status for all and include local case studies that highlight issues and challenges of working with the most vulnerable citizens. In addition, issues of improving social capital and themes of participation, equity and empowerment will be prominent.
UWO students and faculty have been leaders in global health education from development of a mentorship project and ethics education to revamping the Rwandan medical and nursing education system. The conference will highlight successes and challenges of global health education nationally and internationally .
Advocacy is an important but often overlooked aspect of health care. Involvement of health advocacy oriented non-governmental organizations will provide an overall view of the current state of health advocacy. The role of the conference is to promote going beyond ‘knowing’ to ‘doing'.
